Hypnosis for panic attacks, stress and anxiety

Many people have had relief from anxiety, stress and panic attacks by using hypnosis.

Hypnosis  has been used as one of the oldest healing techniques since the ‘sleep temples’ of ancient Egypt. However, in 1955 the British Medical Association endorsed the practice of hypnosis and since that time it has been recognized as a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment, despite the popular myths of mind control incorrectly suggested by “stage hypnotism”. The therapy is also recognized by the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association.

There are two main approaches someone may take to hypnotherapy – either find a professionally qualified practitioner, or use self-hypnosis.  Some people find the latter approach less worrying because no third party is involved.

Your can learn self-hypnosis online, free, with Learn Hypnosis in 5 Days - a professionally created course. The first lesson of the free hypnosis course will be emailed to you immediately and then will then get further hypnosis course instalments every 2 days, and a monthly newsletter ‘Inspired Minds’.  Register right away for your free course.

NOTE: Contraindications for hypnosis

Hypnosis is contraindicated for anyone suffering from epilepsy, clinical on. depression, heart or breathing problems, allergies, psychiatric illness or anyone using recreational drugs.

Stress Management in a World Full of Stress

Stress relief is one of the biggest problems facing society today. In fact, stress is so commonplace in our society today, that associated behaviors such as road rage are becoming just an acceptable part of everyday life.

Research has shown that excess stress not only increases negative hormone levels, the ones responsible for inhibiting sickness and disease, but it also suppresses the immune system.

More than ever before in our history, we are in need of a way to unwind, and care for ourselves in an effective manner.

The vast majority of people today are on the go almost constantly. This is only one of the reasons that people are looking for an effective way to escape the stress of daily life. Time for stress relief, to unwind and relax is highly overlooked, but most people simply cannot afford to escape to a luxury spa whenever they feel the need for time out.

Reflexology provides an answer to the problem of stress management. This form of self-help therapy can provide immediate stress relief in many instances; moreover it can be free of charge and is extremely convenient to use as a self-help tool.

If you are unfamiliar with reflexology, it is based on the philosophy that our feet and hands are a map to the health of your whole body.

Reflexology is simply the practice of strategically applying pressure to the areas of the feet and hands that correspond with specific body organs. By stimulating nerves on specific reflexes of the feet and hands, we can stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin buildup in the corresponding areas of the body.

Reflexology is fairly simple to perform and even simpler to incorporate into your daily routine. It is one of the best ways to care for yourself.

There are many online guides and diagrams that you can use if you simply want to practice the techniques on yourself.

Here is a link to a free reflexology chart that you might find useful. The site has some other information about reflexology as well but the chart is its best feature.

Better still, enroll at a school of reflexology to learn the techniques correctly so that you can spread the health benefits to your friends or your family. If you plan to see a reflexologist professionally, always use a registered therapist.

Here is an information website provided by the Association of Reflexologists. It provides the latest information, useful links and contacts to the general public while a separate category has been made available especially for those that are trying to qualify as a therapist.

Combating the stress and pitfalls of everyday life is a challenge to say the least, but it can be done.Take time for yourself everyday and get your family involved too. Before long you will notice a big difference in how you see life and that you are able to manage your day and the inevitable stress that goes along with it so much better.

Herbs for stress relief

Some good herbs for this condition are catnip, chamomile, cramp bark, kava kava, hops, valarian root, linden flower, motherwort, passionflower and skullcap. All of these promote relaxation and aid in preventing the onset of a panic attack. Fennel relieves anxiety related gastrointestinal upsets and abdominal tension sometimes associated with anxiety. It is most effective taken as a tea. St. John’s Wort, probably the most well known herb for anxiety, works well, although like most herbal remedies, does not give immediate effects and takes two to four weeks before real results are seen.

If you are taking any medication, do not use herbs without professional advice, and NEVER stop taking medication recommended by your physician.

Also, please consult your own country’s regulations before using herbs in case they are not legal in your country.

Hair Pulling – Self Help

Hair Pulling (Trichotillomania) – how to stop

Trichotillomania (or hair pulling) is an irresistible urge to pull out hair from your scalp, eyebrows or other areas of your body. Hair pulling from the scalp often leaves patchy bald spots, which sufferers will be embarrassed about and try to hide.  Frequently, trichotillomania can be triggered by a stressful event such as: change of circumstances, abuse, family conflict, the death of a close family member or even hormonal changes.

Self-help for hair pulling

Your doctor may be able to prescribe antidepressants to treat trichotillomania, but they can have unpleasant side effects, and some prefer a drug-free approach.

Proponents of complementary therapies recommend herbal products or homeopathy – be sure to consult a qualified practitioner, especially if you are on medication.

Studies have shown that cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) a form of psychotherapy is an effective treatment for trichotillomania and your doctor will be able to refer you. CBT teaches you to become more aware of circumstances and emotions that trigger hair pulling so that you can learn to stop and substitute other behavior.

The dangers of hair pulling

Anyone who regularly indulges in hair-pulling  should receive a thorough physical examination from a health professional to rule out potential serious problems. In particular, those who eat their hairs should inform their doctors of this behavior as it may lead to serious health problems. Chewing or eating the hair may cause dental erosions, and even bowel obstruction when trichobezoars (hairballs) build up and are not eliminated.
