Hypnosis for panic attacks, stress and anxiety

Many people have had relief from anxiety, stress and panic attacks by using hypnosis.

Hypnosis  has been used as one of the oldest healing techniques since the ‘sleep temples’ of ancient Egypt. However, in 1955 the British Medical Association endorsed the practice of hypnosis and since that time it has been recognized as a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment, despite the popular myths of mind control incorrectly suggested by “stage hypnotism”. The therapy is also recognized by the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association.

There are two main approaches someone may take to hypnotherapy – either find a professionally qualified practitioner, or use self-hypnosis.  Some people find the latter approach less worrying because no third party is involved.

Your can learn self-hypnosis online, free, with Learn Hypnosis in 5 Days - a professionally created course. The first lesson of the free hypnosis course will be emailed to you immediately and then will then get further hypnosis course instalments every 2 days, and a monthly newsletter ‘Inspired Minds’.  Register right away for your free course.

NOTE: Contraindications for hypnosis

Hypnosis is contraindicated for anyone suffering from epilepsy, clinical on. depression, heart or breathing problems, allergies, psychiatric illness or anyone using recreational drugs.

Travel Ease Aromatherapy Kit – Panic Attacks Earth Solutions AKTE-001

Travel Ease Aromatherapy Kit - Panic Attacks Earth Solutions AKTE-001

One of the least reported health concerns among travelers is panic attacks. Much of this is due to performance anxiety, fear of flying, jet lag and irregular eating habits.

Panic attacks include heart palpitations, shortness of breath and negative thoughts. Many prefer to avoid medications and look towards natural remedies such as aromatherapy and self hypnosis. Self hypnosis with aromatherapy is as simple as repeating a positive affirmation each time an aromatherapy oil is inhaled. Self hypnosis can be acquired by repeating any affirmation that addresses the immediate need.

Earth Solutions developed the concept of associating aromatherapy scents with affirmations to assist self hypnosis by the simple fact that filling the mind with positive thoughts will distract us away from the fear based thoughts that create panic attacks.

With the lavender oil relaxation bath salts, air freshener and Scent Inhaler is included a self hypnosis affirmation.  To most effectively benefit from the Affirmation Kit, repeat the Positive Affirmation below whenever you notice the healthful essential oil aroma.

Whenever appropriate, the bath salts and spritzer will help set the intention mentally and physically. The Scent Inhaler opens to release the essential oil wherever needed. The more opportunity you have to enjoy the scents the more your positive affirmation will be recalled.

Positive Affirmation for Travel: “As I breathe in Travel Ease, I am able to calm my thoughts, relax my body and rest assured of safe and joyful travels.”

Change your thoughts, change your life. The Travel Ease Aromatherapy Kit includes an essential oil Scent Inhaler, two Travel Size bath salts, one Body & Boudoir Spritzer plus Positive Affirmations for Self Hypnosis.

Tips for Relief from Anxiety and Panic Attacks

It’s quite normal to feel anxious when handling certain situations such as making big decisions or sitting exams, but for some, anxiety attacks occur when handling situations that most of us would just take in our stride. These can cause so much distress that sufferers cannot live a normal life

Of course there are drugs and prescription medications that your doctor will be able to provide, but many people prefer natural methods of coping with anxiety attacks.

Here are some top tips for coping with panic and anxiety attacks:

  • Take slow deep breaths through your nose, not through the mouth. The previous practice of re-breathing into a paper bag has been hailed as dangerous because it may lead to oxygen starvation.
  • Try this exercise: stand near to a wall, put your hand on it and hold your breath, then push as hard a possible, keeping your breath held for as long as possible. This tightens your muscles and can reduce anxiety.
  • Most people feel less anxious when we go out in the outdoors. Listening to the birds, watching the sea, a river, or even just a pond or a tropical fish tank can be very soothing. A walk in a park or garden smelling the flowers can help relaxation and fight stress. You may even find that a screen-saver using a natural scene is helpful.
  • Make a list of your problems, then crumple the paper into a ball and either stand on it, or burn it.
  • Yoga is a great stress-buster, which can be practiced by anyone. It will improve mental and physical ability, and boost self-confidence. But you need to go to a class for maximum benefit and to learn the correct techniques.
  • Is a poor diet contributing to your anxiety attacks? Caffeine, sugar and diet sodas all contribute to raised blood sugar. Also, those who are overweight are more prone to anxiety attacks, so reduce your intake of saturated fats.
  • Find a hobby you enjoy. If it’s creative that’s even better. Immersing yourself in a hobby can distract you from the worries of every day life.
  • Spend time alone and at peace. Relax with a good film or a good book. Either can transport you away from the stresses of the world.
  • Aromatherapy involves inhaling essential oils, or in some cases applying them direct to the skin. You can also add essential oils to the bath and enjoy inhaling them while you have a relaxing bath. Lavender is highly recommended for relaxation and is one of the only essential oils that it’s safe to apply to the skin without diluting. While aromatherapy can be practiced as a self-help therapy, you would be wise to consult a qualified practitioner in the first instance to produce a blend specifically for you.
  • Acupuncture targets specific points in the body to promote healing, and has been proven beneficial for anxiety disorders. Unlike aromatherapy this isn’t a self-help technique as you will need to consult a licensed practitioner. Be sure this person is registered with a reputable professional body and will observe good hygiene practices.
  • Talking things over with someone trustworthy may bring closure to unresolved worries and resentments. But be careful who you talk to – ideally a completely disinterested third-party, or at least someone completely divorced from the situation that’s causing you anxiety. Counselors or Cognitive Behavioral Therapists are highly recommended to help reduce the occurrence of panic attacks.
  • There are many herbal remedies known to be beneficial for anxiety and panic. Consult a qualified herbalist – this is not an area where self-help is advised.

Before implementing any change in physical activity or diet, check it out with your medical doctor. If he or she is unsympathetic to anything other than medication, consider getting a second opinion preferably from an integrative medicine physician.

What are the methods of therapy you used for treating anxiety?

I'm 16 years old and just recently started going to a psychologist as my mother (a gastroenterologist) deemed it necessary after i finally spoke to her and my dad about the horrible anxiety i was experiencing. Firstly he suggested Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but that didn't really work for me. Now we're trying Acceptance and Commitment therapy and i was just wondering, for all those others with anxiety out there, have any of you tried this method? How has it helped? Or what else have you done to help you to cut back your anxiety symptoms? Thanx in advance.

I am a health care worker who suffers from Generalized Anxiety disorder.. this is not as severe as some other Anxiety disorders.. but my main symptom is, that when I get ''a bit flustered.. or tensed'' my symptoms manifest themselves purely in a phyiscal way.. i get intense chest pains and I can't breathe properly because my diaphragm muscles contract'' my heart beats faster… I believed for a long time it was my lungs or heart.. but extensive testing showed it is Anxiety related.. and I don't feel anxious.. but I went to see psychiatrists.. that did not help. I tried acupuncture.. it didn't help… I tried homepathy… herbal remedies and Reiki.. none of that worked and talking to the ''Psychiatrists did not help because I saw him once a week and after one hour I got told…'' your time is up'' it was pointless then I tried different antianxiety meds and I found one that works for me.. it is a benzodiapine.. and it helps to balance out some of the ''parts of the brain that are not in harmony''' the imbalances …. '' but medication… is just like a sheath… you put between the wound and the body and it will mask the pain.. it is not actually curing it because it does not get to the root cause of …''why do I have anxiety'' and that would be more helpful if you find someone who really works with you and finds the reason for your anxiety.. once you know the reason you know how to combat it.. if you take meds like me.. you might need to do that also.. because it helps me to live my life.. .and I can work and have a normal life without the pain…. some anxiety other than Generlized anxiety is very severe with phobias, vertigo, social phobia, (not ever wanting or unable to go outside.. and if people do they feel afraid to walk to the corner store..) .. driving their car.. they are scared.. some suffer from claustrophobia…some have nightmares in full blown anxiery and the feeling of impending doom and death… some can't work at all.. with GAD it's not so bad.. but you should do what the doctor thinks best… I believe a therapy a group therapy in combination with the right medication against anxiety for you would work best… then perhaps one day you find the reason for it and can solve it.. and then the anxiety will disappear…. I know that a session talking to the therapist..''psychiatrist for one hour doesn't help… but perhaps group therapy… I was never given that choice but I am on medication.. Clonazepam 2 mg twice a day.. I have been on it since 2003.. and I am fortunate that I have not had to increase my dosage because if you take a medication over a long time your body and your mind usually develop a tolerance toward that drug and if you want to achieve the same effect you need more…. it's like a drinker.. he may start with one bottle of beer. then it has to be 3 then 4.. and perhaps after a while 7 bottles to get the same..''high feeling out of it'' as the body also develops a tolerance to alohol if someone is a ''regular drinker'' an alcoholic..'''

You do need medication I believe and treatment .. try it out.. best to get both.. combine it.. I wish I had had group therapy.. because I believe that might work best if you are in a group with others who also suffer from the same kind of anxiety.. you can learn from each other ..and you also know you are definitely not alone.. a lot more promising than a one to one session of talk with a therapist.. and medication.. until you get to the root of the problem is important…

Good luck… you really are not alone.. depression and anxiety are the top 2 mental health problems of our time and age.. a lot has to do with stress and the competition we face at school and work….xx

treating anxiety?

Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question regarding the treatment of anxiety. I have a problem with anxiety and I've handled it pretty well with taking .5mg of xanax 2xdaily. However, I would like to get of the Xanax and perhaps try something better, such as, Lexapro or Buspar. Being a male, I'm very concerned about the sexual side effect, that would make me feel worse. Should I stay on Xanax or give something else a try. Thanks for all your responses. It's great to know that I'm the only one out there with this. It's embarrasing talking to someone about this because it seems to me that if you've never experienced GAD, one cannot not know how horrible it feels. Again, thanks for all your responses.

I used to have a terrible time with anxiety. It would keep me from doing things like going outside. I would have these feelings of guilt and not often would they be connected directly to anything. It was horrible! I was an emotional mess, for sure. The things that seemed to help me were…

Try not to dwell on anything for very long. I know that that can be difficult, but you just have to stop yourself…I had to come to the conclusion that I was human and that we all make a mistake or two or bunches of them and that it was just a part of living. If you aren't making mistakes, then you are just not living…Especially avoid it when you start to sweat over the small things. By that I will use as an example…when you try to get your point across, but people don't get you. I have learned that you are not going to be "gotten" by everyone…

Look for pleasure in the simple things and try to be a simple person. I don't mean that you should dumb down yourself, just not to try to solve the worlds problems.

Physical and mental activity really helps. If you are not doing some type of sport or working on a hobby, you are loosing out on the benefits that they offer for your mind. For example, with physical activity you can get your blood pumping and full of endorphins (that is a good thing). It makes you think more clearly. While a good hobby like playing an instrument or basket weaving, helps you in making different connections in the brain as you are focused on something besides plain existence. For the both of these there is another common side effect, you can feel good about getting better at something. One of the things that I had mentioned before needs to be kept up with before this can be healthy:) You don't want to set yourself up for failure by thinking that you are going to be a star…Then there is the other benefit…most of the sports and hobbies can be done with others…

Read some books. There are a lot of people that come before us, that have been through so much more than we could even comprehend. Some of them wrote autobiographies. In there, they usually have some great view points that you may pick up.

Always remember that your mind is yours! You control it, and never let it control you. I hope that makes sensce to you because that is a huge part of treating anxiety. You have to control your thoughts. Pick and choose them. Don't get stuck in a loop. If you keep coming to the same thing in your mind all of the time, you are not going to get over it…sometimes the best way to get through something is to go around it.

If you find that you can't have good laugh, then all of this may take some time. When you can get a good laugh going, then you are on your way. Laughter is a really great medicine.

You may need to find a higher purpose for your life…I suggest that you should at least be on a quest to leave this world a better one for you having been in it. I will leave the rest of this topic alone for now…

While medications can help in dulling you over, the side effect, or even the main effect can be harmful. I would really think about going with that route. Avoid it if you can. I think that you can, so…

Be yourself, face your fears head on with blinders, don't dwell on anything, and remember that your mind is your own!

I may come back and add more latter if something else comes to mind. But, I won't dwell on it:)
